I too read Carnegie, and I have plenty of common sense. But as an introvert, I still struggled with making good conversation and making my way through small talk when necessary. Plus I’m not a good reader … I absorb audio tapes much better. This gave me exactly what I needed. Ok, I didn’t go “Wow” with everything he said, but he offered many great ways of making conversation, and building my confidence at handling those “small talk” moments. Great suggestions that you never learned in school.

Beowulf: The Complete Story: A Drama (an audio book)

The Ringler translation of Beowulf is excellent and this recording of his translation just adds to the whole Beowulf experience. I would urge you to get Ringler’s translation as well as this recording and read it and Ringler’s great introduction to the poem. This recording really brings the Beowulf story to life. The reading is dramatic with different voices for the narrator, Beowulf, Hrothgar, etc. Tasteful sound effects (eg, the sound of whale-road waves) enhance the listening experience. There is also gentle music that includes ancient horns, an Irish harp, drums and soulful voices – all beautifully applied. I think that by listening to this recording you will really “get it” as to why Beowulf is such a classic.

(Probably having a mug of ale would make the listening experience even better, though I wouldn’t recommend doing that if you are listening while driving).

Wiley CPA Examination Review Impact Audios, 2nd Edition Auditing and Attestation Set

This was the first section that I used the Wiley Cpa Impact Audios. I actually order them via Mp3 from the Wiley site, but if you order the cd through Amazon you will save quite a bit. I personally didn’t have the patients to wait for shipment.

I agree with the other reviews in that the audio quality is not that great. However, that’s what you have a max volume for, so that part didn’t bother me. The actual information presented is done extremely well. I just took the Audit section and scored a 92 on my first attempt, and I primarily used the Impact Audio, Wiley Flash Notes, and Wiley Auditing Software for my studying.

So I believe this is a very good product as far as content. There is another edition that is coming out, which may improve upon the sound quality and any additional content that has been added to the exam. As one review mentioned, there isn’t any Sarbanes Oxley information on the cd, however, for the amount of questions based on Sarbanes Oxley on the exam, you don’t really need the additional information. As long as you know the basic information of the Sarbanes Oxley Act, you’ll be fine.

I think the best way to get your value out of this product is listen to it as you go through the Wiley Flash Notes. I don’t recommend listening to the cd in the car. For this type of information you need to be focused on listening. If you are driving, it is very hard to focus on the context of what is being said. I would listen to it while lying in bed (and fell asleep a few times in the process), but it was very beneficial.

So I would recommend the CD, I think the content is perfectly designed to study for the exam.

There are a lot of things to love about The Thin Book.

The first is that it is, literally, a thin book. It is 108 pages of double spaced type. Personally, I believe most books, and most certainly those in the mental health field, are much too long. The Thin Book sets a great example of what is possible.

Another reason to love The Thin Book is the simplicity of its organization. It is a terrific book, and that, it seems, was Brickman’s intention. He has given us fourteen chapters, each of which is a well-developed trance script addressing the subconscious meaning of a specific weight loss challenge. Some of these scripts, such as “Compulsive Eating as a Defense Against Anxiety,” “Craving Fruit and Vegetables,” or “Late Evening Eating,” I might expect to see in a book for weight management.

To my delight, Brickman goes beyond the expected by offering scripts on, “Being Overweight as an Expression of Passivity and Hostility,” “Slowing Down the Act of Eating,” “Exercising,” “Feeling Deprived After a Successful Effort,” and “Lacking Resolve when Eating Away From Home.”
The book is also unique in that the only writing Brickman presents other than the well-constructed and structured scripts is a 3-page preface. Here he describes himself as a “specialist in weight management.” He states, “The scripts use positive suggestions or positive hypnosis in the form of metaphors, analogies, empathy and confrontation that contradict the effects of the unconscious mind.” This description offers an accurate portrayal of his work, but understates the sensitivity and richness of his work.

The Thin Book is accompanied by an audiotape, read by Brickman, containing three of his trance scripts: “The Resistant Part of Me,” “Saying ‘No’ to Important Others,” and, “Compulsive Eating as a Defense Against Feelings.” Hearing Brickman’s perfectly soothing voice is as satisfying as a double-layered chocolate cake, and is quite helpful as a teaching tool.

I highly recommend Brickman’s The Thin Book to any professional that works with weight issues as well as to any one interested in reading and hearing well done hypnotic scripts.
